IN LOVING MEMORY

In Loving Memory is a Des Moines, Iowa-based screamo band originally active from 1998 to 2001. Known for their emotionally intense live performances and dual vocal approach, the band quickly became a part of the Midwest hardcore scene, playing regional shows alongside peers like Love Lost But Not Forgotten, The Spirit of Versailles, and Eclipse of Eden, and opening for touring acts such as Converge, Botch, Reversal of Man, and Combat Wounded Veteran.

During their initial run, ILM released a split cassette with Black Market Fetus, a split 7″ with Examination of the…, and a self-recorded full-length album in 2000 at Earsay Studios in Sioux Falls, South Dakota-a studio that also hosted several other influential Midwest screamo bands. That full-length, originally released on burned CDRs, captured the band’s raw energy and urgency before their disbandment in 2001 while most members were still in high school.

In December 2022, the original lineup reunited, relearning old material and writing new songs. They returned to the stage in 2023 with two hometown shows in Des Moines and released a 4-song EP titled A Gentler Sun, accompanied by a music video for the title track. Since reforming, In Loving Memory has played shows across the Midwest and both coasts, including appearances at festivals like Clam Jam (RI), ZBR Fest (Chicago), YR Renaissance Fest (LA), and Dilly Dally Fest (Philly).

Their remastered 2000 album As Years Pass and Feel Like Seconds has been reissued through partnerships with Init Records, Zegema Beach Records, and Illuminate My Heart Records, and their most recent release is a split 7″ with California band Widowdusk. In Loving Memory remains deeply rooted in DIY ethics, continuing to evolve while honoring the spirit of their early years.
